Our Vision

We think of Belvoir as a pioneer wagon, crossing the prairies to a land of new hope. If you put your shoulder to the wheel, and become a Founder Patron, we will get Belvoir rolling again, and once we start, it will be hard to stop! A little help now, a little oil on the wheel and we shall set in motion a process that will safeguard the future of this great estate.

It is our wish that our Founder Patrons will be welcomed into the Belvoir family and will come to know and love Belvoir as we do. It will be our pleasure to throw the castle open to you, so that you can experience the magic of Belvoir first hand and get a hands-on understanding of the daily business of keeping it on the road.

So we plan to invite you to spend a weekend with us, exploring the castle and its treasures, the Dairy and the Kennels (the Belvoir hunt, founded in 1730, is one of the oldest in England), the Capability Brown park around Belvoir, and the adjoining park of Croxton which dates back over 1000 years. You will meet the consultants and conservators advising on our first projects: the conservation of the Chinese wallpaper in four of the State Bedrooms and the completion and clearing of the lakes to finish the plans drawn up by Capability Brown 250 years ago.

For centuries, Belvoir has been renowned for the warmth and generosity of its hospitality: the Duke of Wellington, Queen Victoria, Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth have all stayed and been entertained by the family. We look forward to continuing this tradition in welcoming our Founder Patrons to our inaugural ‘Patrons’ House Party’, more of which a little further on.
